Lisa Levy is a charismatic performer who has an uncanny ability to sense how people are feeling – both friends and strangers. Add in Lisa’s hilarious sense of humor and spontaneity and you have…
Lisa’s background is a diverse as her comedic and artistic skills. She was sent to MOMA children’s art school at the age of 3 1/2 by her architect father and art-loving mother. Lisa was devoted to making all sorts of things, even trying basket weaving, but always interested in novelty and new ideas.
After graduating college with a BFA diploma (now photoshopped to a Masters of Social Work), Lisa used her idea factory personality and applied it to a career as a successful advertising art director. Many of the ads she created sprung from he unique perspective on life and her sense of humor. Her work in advertising influenced her art and she began making objects with words along with art that involved experimenting with people. Her artwork was shown in all the prestigious non-profit galleries around Manhattan. She did work that had a performance aspect to it, like stealing objects-fun ones mostly, or legally having a will made, designating all her belongings to be left to strangers and friends. She made 50 cement cow turds and put them under the cow art statues around Manhattan one summer. Lisa shaped her work so it could be art-like to fit into a gallery.
In the summer of 2001, having a lot of feelings about her crazy upbringing and her own experiences with therapy, she thought it would be fun to try doing it on stage. She started out by renting a theatre and inviting friends. The idea took off and became a hit in both New York and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Through this experience, Lisa finally found her true passion, performing and making people laugh, sometimes at themselves. She is currently in development on 2 new projects, Lisa’s World, an autobiographical piece and “Red Carpet LIVE!” A red carpet reality entertainment experience. This past summer she was a hit at Scope Hamptons with her performance and video, “My Kid Could’ve Done That”. She Lisa did a red carpet and hosting of this years’s Oscar night at Joe’s Pub.
On Sept 28th, Lisa will be EmCeing a evening with Eric Doeringer at The Whitney Museum.
Some of Lisa’s notable achievements besides her performance career range from besting 12,5000 contestants to win $83,000 for having the top prize concept in a Hebrew National advertising contest, to appearing on David Letterman’s “Stupid Pet Tricks”.
